RHODES GRASS BALES

Rhodes grass is a useful forage for pasture and hay, drought-resistant and very productive, of high quality when young.  It is grazed, cut for hay or used as deferred feed but it is not suitable for silage. Rhodes Grass Hay is low in oxalate, containing approximately 2.5 to 3 g/kg of oxalate. Rhodes grass was – and still is – the preferred hay fodder for camels.  While cattle, particularly dairy cows, are one of the major consumers of Rhodes grass hay, the fodder is considered to being the best for camels and their digestive systems.  With large camel farms and camel holders in the Middle East, the prohibition to grow the preferred fodder crop meant Rhodes grass had to be imported.
